My Act Two

Act 2 Scene 2 - Career Change

One of the most transformative chapters of my life was running a women’s sober living home. It was there, inside the walls of recovery, that I saw the raw courage of women rebuilding their lives from the ground up. That experience introduced me to the world of addiction treatment—and I was hooked. Not just on helping people stay sober, but on witnessing them reclaim their voices, their power, and their joy.

As I spent more time in that world, I began weaving in the tools I knew best—storytelling, theater, and creative expression. I started using acting methodologies and drama therapy techniques in groups and one-on-one sessions. What happened next was incredible: women were healing at a pace I hadn’t seen before. They were breaking through shame, confronting their fears, and stepping into their true selves with honesty and courage.

Watching those breakthroughs unfold—watching people come alive in their recovery—confirmed for me that creativity and healing are deeply connected. That work became the foundation for everything I do now as a coach and facilitator.

ACT 2 - Scene 3 - Family

For as long as I can remember, I dreamed of becoming a mother. But when I first got sober, that dream felt impossibly far away. I had destroyed an engagement, my life was in pieces, and I was totally broken—convinced that love, family, and the future I once wanted were no longer meant for me.

And then, life surprised me. On the very day I finally surrendered—when I thought, you know what, maybe I’ll just be on my own for a while—I met my husband. We fell in love when I least expected it. Loving him and being loved by him has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. He makes me belly laugh every single day, and together we’ve built a home filled with laughter, chaos, and love.

Our journey to becoming parents wasn’t easy either. We tried for a year to have our first child, and every negative pregnancy test broke my heart a little more. I struggled, prayed, and finally handed it over. I went to an acupuncturist, I surrendered the timeline, and told myself that if IVF was part of our story, I was open. And wouldn’t you know it—the very next month, we got pregnant naturally.

Now I’m a mom to two wildly wonderful kids: Jamie, my sweet, hilarious little boy who has taught me about tenderness and joy, and Scarlett, my bold, loud, and proud little girl who found her voice early and uses it unapologetically.

Our house is rarely quiet and never perfectly clean, but it is full of belly laughs, Moana, sticky fingers, and love. My family is my greatest teacher in what it means to be present, to surrender control, and to find joy in the messiest, most beautiful parts of life.
